Hip Hop to Help is a charitable organisation set up in 2017 by a student at Warwick University and last years Vice President of the Warwick Devils, Amber-Louise Pocklington.
Its beginning originated with three free dance classes held at Fiery Feet Dance Studio in Leamington Spa, with an optional donation. The classes were for all - everyone in the community was invited. The classes were a success, raising £303 for LWS Night Shelter. The organisation is now aiming to expand classes into primary schools, such as Finham Primary School in Coventry, to give all young people the opportunity to dance whilst educating them about homelessness with the aim of prevention.
Throughout the year, the Devils will attend the dance classes, and raise money and awareness for the homeless as well as teach children dance from all backgrounds. Our members will also be volunteers of the organisation, demonstrating community values and helping the vulnerable through their passion for dance, gymnastics and cheerleading. If you would like to get involved or support in any way, please email amberpocklington@gmail.com.
Jo, our Charity and Fixtures Sec says:
"MIND is a charity that focuses on giving advice and empowering people who have mental health problems. They offer free counselling and host info sessions in order to eradicate the negative stigma mental health patients are faced with.
The Devils are supporting this charity because we know how common mental health issues are, and find that they need to be spoken about more openly."
